For all you French students this is notification that Madame Ripley passed away this year. \r\n\r\nTheodora \"Dora\" Ripley \r\nINDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Theodora Marguerite \"Dora\" Smith Ripley, 86, formerly of Rock Island, Taylor Ridge, and Andalusia, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 3:20 a.m., while residing at Brookdale of Willow Creek Clair Bridge, in Indianapolis, Ind.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be at 9 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2013, at Rafferty Funeral Home, 21111st St. A, Moline; with Funeral Services following at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299. Memorials can be made to Dora\'s favorite charity, The Salvation Army. She loved The Salvation Army since they helped her family when she was a child.\r\n\r\nDora was born January 27, 1927, in Battle Creek, Mich., the daughter of Samuel and Marguerite (Williams) Smith. She spent her youth in the Quad-Cities. Dora was a WAVE during World War II during war time. After the war she married Edward Harvey Ripley on May 29, 1948, in Davenport. Edward preceded Dora in death in October 1998.\r\n\r\nDora received her Bachelorís Degree in French from Augustana College and her Master\'s Degree in French from the University of Iowa.\r\n\r\nDora taught French at Alleman High School in Rock Island, and many of her former students will remember her as Madame Ripley. After her retirement from Alleman, she enjoyed living in the country with her husband and taking an active role in community work and activities.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include her son, Dr. Edward Michael Ripley (wife, Kathleen I. Ripley) of Bloomington, Ind.; grandsons, Eric Michael Ripley (Lauren Calandruccio) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Jonathan Vincent Ripley (Stacy Ripley-Young) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; great-grandson, Kieran Ripley, and great-granddaughter, Kai Ripley (both children of Eric and Lauren); nieces, Kim Oldeen of Kewanee, Ill., Tracy Piotrowski of Kewanee, and Candice Mansfield of West Palm Beach, Fla. Also surviving is a beloved niece-in-law, Diane Ralfs (Jerry Ralfs).\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brothers, Clifford and Wayne Smith; her sister, Pearl Smith; her half-brother, Milton Milo \"Mike\" Webb; her half-sister, Emma Adler-Burnett; a niece, Debbie Adler-Atkinson; and nephews, Eddie and Mark Burnett.\r\n\r\nCondolences may be left at http://www.*****/****
